Dear Staff, Students and Stakeholders:
The West Harvey-Dixmoor School District continues to make academic progress, as all the buildings have either made AYP or received academic progress recognition from the State of Illinois.
We have received financial recognition from the State two years in a row. This status is the highest recognition possible granted by the State of Illinois. The Board should be recognized for accepting the Superintendent's recommendation and for being financially prudent and responsible.
Additional resources have been allocated to help Washington School make AYP, i.e., ETI, an instructional approach addressing the compilation of data, and the reinstatement of a literacy coach to assist with instruction, we are hopeful that our efforts will be fruitful.
The Board of Education continues its work with the Illinois Association of School Boards in a workshop format targeting and promoting student achievement.
The District #147 Foundation has appropriated $1,000 toward a recently developed program called the Minority Teacher Incentive Program, which has, tapped 45 students grades 3-8 who are A-B students to help them further excel academically.
The foundation has also designated $10,000 from its fund to build a tennis court at Rosa Parks Middle School. Lastly, parents should get their children involved in the District Soccer Program, which will begin this fall. Thanks to the Board of Education, student progress is being made socially and academically.
In Education,
Dr. Alex Boyd, Jr.
Superintendent of Schools
School District 147
